February 2024- One of the fun things about working with 3d rendering is how you get so many perspectives on the same subject. Here we have a simple stickman character standing alone on the default Unity scene background. Is it really a background?

The control buttons are floating just above “ground” and it’s not clear whether they are on the same plane as the stickman or in front or behind him. Is the stickman facing towards us (towards the camera) or away? It appears from the humanoid antropological projection we subconsciously make his hands are in front of his abdomen so he is facing away.

Turning left, we can see the hands resting at hip level as the stickman appears to be starting to walk in the left direction. This would be perpendicular to the camera direction so the stickman now appears in a 2d form with legs spread as if in motion. From the image, we can’t tell if this is a 2d detailed character sprite with adjusted pose, or if it is an actual 3d stickman with depth. Even the feet in front of the background dark layer leave it open to interpretation whether the stickman is standing in front of a wall or a distant horizon scene.

Finally, the stickman appears to have lept off the white ground and into the air, where the air poofs give a hint of previous action. Arms raised joyously, the character has spread legs and taken a might leap. Off to the races!
